    Labour: Dithering or Impotence?

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 08:27 PM GMT [General]

The picture that we have seen shows that there are far too many imponderables and links that make policy making an almost impossible task.

When the collapse of the financial system in Iceland is bound to affect several of the highstreet big names or even leave on the lurch ordinary Britons, we need to understand that the complexities we face would not change whatever government is in power.

Today, four major British banks went asking for help while the value of their shares plummeted and people became increasingly worried about the safety of the British banking system. If Lehman Brothers, Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae could go down in the United States, nothing would stop any of the major British banks from going under.

Now, what do we do? Do we panic and run for cover? If we panic, we are going to make things far worse than things actually are. So as they say in the Navy - Steady as She goes. Keep your head safely attached to your body and your feet soundly based on the ground.

Coming back to the headline - Dithering or Impotence - there is so much any government can do when everybody is shouting that the house is on fire.

    Samhain

    Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 02:26 PM [General]

Samhain?  End of Summer?  Halloween, ShadowFest, Martinmas, Old Hallowmass. What does it really mean?

To me and my family it means, a peaceful night dinner at home to reflect on what has transpired during the year.  We look and pray on ways that we could improve as an individual and as a family in the coming year.  We also set an extra plate at the table to honor our deceased family members, we also put a plate of food outside for the deceased that are wondering.   We pray and reat the tarot for the family as a whole.

My children do not dress up, since they do not go out at night on this night and to not participate in "Halloween" festivities.  I have tried to raise my family "wiccan".  Everyone that knows me, know what path I follow as well as my family.

We have had a hard past year, with relocating and everything.  It was not a surprise since before the decision was made to relocate I consulted the cards and it was a move that was necessary but very hard at the on start.  This year everything will come into prespective for my family.

We are a down to earth Wiccan Family, down to the black cat as a familar.

    Blessed it be to everyone.

Girl, 17, killed over hand bump on CTA bus

    BY ANNIE SWEENEY Crime Reporter

An accidental hand brush between two men on a South Side CTA bus Sunday night led to the shooting death of a 17-year-old Chicago high school student.

The shooting interrupted a typical teenage moment -- Julian High School senior Kiyanna Salter was chatting with a friend on her cell phone when the shots rang out aboard the No. 71 bus traveling along 71st Street in Grand Crossing, said her cousin who was with her.

"The last thing she said was, 'why are you in the house,' '' said Jasmine Wilcox, 18. " . . . I ducked down. I looked up. She was lying on the floor and I was just holding her hand, telling her to wake up."

Chicago Police were checking videotape: All CTA buses are equipped with four to seven security cameras. They also were canvassing the area, but no arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.

The cousins -- more like best friends or sisters -- were on their way home at 10 p.m. to the 11300 block of South Racine from visiting a sick aunt when the shooting happened. The bus was just coming to Cottage Grove.

The shooting was a chilling reminder to many of the 2007 fatal shooting of another Julian student -- honor student Blair Holt. He was on his way home when he was shot on the No. 103 at 103rd and Halsted.

"I was numb,'' said Ron Holt, Blair's father. "You can't pat people down [on a bus]. And look at what we get. It seems like it's the young and innocent who get killed.''

Wilcox said the argument between the two men started because one man accidently touched the hand of the other as he was getting off the bus.

There was a short exchange of threats, and she thought one displayed a handgun on the bus, Wilcox said. The other man then got of the bus and took out his own gun, firing back through the back door where the cousins were sitting.

"They're killing our kids,'' said Kiyanna's aunt, who did not want to give her name. Kiyanna stayed with her on Racine during the week so she could attend Julian. "How would they feel if it was one of their kids? You have to experience this to learn how it feels.''

Kiyanna was well-liked and had lots of friends at Julian, said family and school officials. She loved basketball and her fashion design class and planned to study medicine or to be a medical assistant.

"She was mellow,'' said Wilcox, adding that her cousin stayed mostly to herself. Kiyanna's aunt agreed -- and that's why she didn't worry about her.

"If you've got a good child and you know they're not doing anything wrong, you don't too much worry about them because you know God's got them,'' she said, tears streaming her face. "I guess it was her time to go. He just needed her. He needed her.''

This surge could be decisive for Barack Obama

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 08:23 PM GMT [General]

It's not just the opinion polls that are looking rosy for Barack Obama in some key battleground states. Another crucial set of figures came in this week - new voter registration statistics.

The deadline for registration has just passed in much of the country and the much-vaunted Obama machine seems to be operating as smoothly as ever.

In Florida, for instance, Democratic registration gains this year are more than double those made by Republicans; in Colorado and Nevada the ratio is 4 to 1, and in North Carolina it is 6 to 1.

Of course where there is voter registration, there is also scope for voter fraud. So expect some Republican challenges over these striking figures.

But these new tallies, combined with the parlous state of the economy, leave John McCain and Sarah Palin with a mountain to climb.

It should be pointed out that getting people on the rolls is not the same thing as getting them to the polls. But as we saw during the primaries, the Obama campaign is very effective at the Get Out The Vote operation as well.

If the voters who turn out this year are much the same as the electorate in the Bush-Kerry battle in 2004, then the McCain-Palin ticket is still in with a fair chance. But if these new registration figures are a harbinger for turn-out on Nov 4, then there could be an Obama landslide.

Whats the job of the police again?

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 08:21 PM GMT [Moans]

Thinking of applying for a job with the Police, nothing to do with actual policing, just number crunching.

I have had to remove more than half of my current tasks to fit it into the tiny box given. but have half a page to talk about my respect for race and diversity

Well, wont be getting that job then.

from BLENDER THROUGH PEREZ TO YOU VIA ME!! HUH?

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 02:20 PM CST [General]

    U Wanna Tap That Ass???

    bl75_nov08_katyperry.jpg

Music's new "It" girl, Katy Perry, is on the cover of the new issue of Blender magazine.

And, we've got a juicy preview of all the HIGHlights!

Jesus Christ, Superstar: Growing up in her parent's Evangelical ministry, she says "It was kind of an island. We spoke in tongues. We knew there was this one way, and all the other ways were wrong." In Perry's house, deviled eggs were called angeled eggs. "I didn't know enough to ask my mom, ‘How come we call them that? Everybody else calls them something else.'" She's protective of her parents beliefs, even if she doesn't share them anymore: "They found God at a time when they really needed to, and I believe in the God they found. My dad would have died from one tab of Strawberry Fields (LSD) too many if he hadn't found God." Despite any religious conflicts, she's part of the family tree. "I'm still in the will," she explains. "It's just that I have more money than them now."

Breaking In: "The first time I got signed, they brought me in a room with three other girls they signed at the same time. They sat us down and said, 'Maybe one of you will ever make a record. The other three can go back to Middle America and pop out babies.'" Despite her long wait, she didn't quit: "What else was I gonna do? I'd just turn into a depressed, pill-popping disaster of a housewife." She decided to stick it out until she turned 25, but it only took until she was 23. "It was really difficult, drinking became a problem. It got out of control until I said, OK - back to work. I know I'm speaking for someone, even if it is someone silly."

Thug Life: Of her boyfriend, Gym Class Heroes front man Travis McCoy "He's thug-nificent," Perry says. "I can't believe I got a thug to commit!" "We weren't really together, it was casual. But soulless hooking up didn't seem so hot to me. I always wanted to have a romance. I said "Excuse me, I've been coming to a number of your shows in the greater Los Angeles area for quite some time now. I've been your Penny Lane long enough, and now I want to be your Grace Kelly."

She's from Santa Barbara, not The Hills: Perry's thrift-store bombshell style is a big part of her appeal - this is definitely one pop star you wouldn't get confused with the girls from The Hills. "Hellz to the f**k no! There's no comparison. No offense, but those ladies are a totally different breed. A cheeseburger's fine if you're just looking for something quick to fill you up, but there's no substitute for the filet!"

    Name this blogger (troll)

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 08:18 PM GMT [General]

I was just going through my old word documents and disgarding any that no longer had any relevance, when I came upon this jem. It shows the supreme contempt that all of the troublemakers have have for this site. Who would have written this? I used to tell this troll that he needed medication, well judge for yourself

Last week my girlfriend went to Paris to her parents after a monumental row between us . I had a couple of glasses (more) of wine and I copied and pasted through laziness from my favourite information site and got caught. Was I mad or what?

MyT was a site which I used to aggravate, irritate and harass those who were brought up to believe in institutions and who were lucky enough to have led an extremely privileged life. When you are part of an organization whether it be the army or a corporate, it’s pretty much impossible to put yourself in the place of those who indirectly suffer from your actions. You are too busy ‘pleasing the boss’, taking instruction, making sure you gain recognition in order for the rewards to follow.

Darling emergency statement. Britain now a banana republic - official

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 08:15 PM GMT [General]

The Chancellor has delivered a short statement which only serves to emphasise how chaotic the government's handling of this crisis has become. It amounted to: we're on the case, still quite a lot of details to work out, can you come back tomorrow please?

Before the markets open there will be a British banking bail-out of some kind. Let's hope it works.

But the handling of this today has been beyond appalling, in policy and presentational terms. When it is all over, reputations will have been shredded, answers will be required and there will have to be a reckoning. Otherwise we will have become a banana republic. Sorry, what's that I'm hearing from Robert Peston? The government is going to announce in the morning that we are a banana republic.

    Any one knows "love works"?

    Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 02:14 PM [General]

Hi, I am from Denmark and I have met an american family that changed my life.

They are teaching people in denmark what love can do whit people...that is amazing. it is a NON PROFIT organisation, and they live from generous people that donate money.

Now I am teaching whit them and would like to know if anyone here have heard about this couple, named Wayman and Susan Howard.

I would like to make a group of people that will support this family economicly through inviting people to go hunting on privat property and in that way pay the money to this family.

Hunters in Denmark would give alot of money to go hunting in the USA.

So if you have privat property and would like to support this family or just knowing more about "Love works" then write me.

    Financial Crunch

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 08:13 PM GMT [Money]

Why is the current financial crisis called a crunch and not a collapse?

Most people at some stage have borrowed.  It seems that worldwide, people have borrowed far too much.  Many years ago, there used to be a popular saying, ‘never a lender or a borrower be'.  The reasoning behind it being that if someone needed the money, they probably couldn't pay it back....

We are constantly being invited to borrow more (or were until recently) on a have now, worry about it later type lease.  Sadly the worry is hitting home now, big time.  Whilst the Governments here and overseas cannot be held responsible for the entire financial mess - they are responsible for allowing the processes that made it  happen.  If people can't afford a mortgage on one salary before one partner becomes ill, unemployed or children arrive - they are hardly likely to be able to manage after.  And, that is before people borrow more for their car (s), some people like to have one in every colour!   I heard an elderly man the other day say a large percentage of the problem was the greed of the people today, wanting too much too soon - maybe he had a point?
